![]() I ultimately ditched Authenticator Plus as updates were quite slow, which wasn’t a huge issue most of the time but when Apple has released new display sizes or things like dark mode, it sometimes took a while to catch up. The app looks very much like a Google Authenticator clone with some of the conveniences of better apps such as cloud sync. I’ve paid for the Mac App as well as the iOS one served me so well. Hardware MFA like Yubikey is the most secure as it's seperate to all of your device and it's not connected / can't be remotely accessed and would protect against someone gaining access to your device. Authy acknowledge this is less secure but the valid point is Authy's mutli device MFA is more secure than no MFA so it's the balance against security and convience. Why Authy's multi device is less secure is it potentially allows a bad actor to get access to your MFA without having to physically gain access to your device. As mentioned2FA inside 1Password isn't 2FA (and 1Password say the same) as it doesn't require something you have. I wouldn't worry about 2FA on your device as if someone has gained physical access to your device, managed to log in and you haven't noticed and wiped it then most people would be screwed anyway. By having your 2FA on the same device your password manager you still have the two forms of authentication. This isn't entirely true, the first form of authentication is something you know (your password) the second form is something you have (your phone etc). But sadly, Apple-exclusive.Īny suggestions and recommendations would be muchly appreciated! Right now, I've been using OTP Auth, by Roland Moers, it's a free iOS app, but the MacOS version is paid, it also has Apple Watch and iPad versions as well, which is super appreciated. Again, from my search, Authy seems to be the only one. As of right now, I know only Authy is.Īlso, I would prefer to go with apps that also has a desktop app alongside the mobile version. But that may change in the future, and I always try to look for apps and services that are cross-platform. ![]() I'm currently an Apple user (iPhone, Macbook, iPad, Apple Watch, etc). I know it's one of the 3 apps 1Password suggests & recommends on their website for 2FA but still. The second problem is the signing up with a mobile number with Authy and their past history with breaches. Unlike Authy, 1Password has your vault in their cloud storage but at least you have the option to also export the entire vault out onto a 1Password secure file that you can store somewhere offline. Yes, I understand it's encrypted and has a master password that is not stored but putting that much trust into cloud storage worries me. And from my research, Authy seems to be the goto, and best suited for multiplatform users.īut my first problem with Authy is that the backup they offer can not be accessed by the user, it's only stored on their servers. I'm well aware of the main 4 (Google Auth, Microsoft Auth, DUO, and Authy). Hey, y'all! I'm currently trying to find a 2FA app that I can use alongside 1Password.
